A respectable effort by all the boys proudly wearing the jumper of the Sorell Football Club.

Congratulations to Robbie Iles and his support staff on a fine year.

Disappointing for the 1983 Premiership reunion boys that were watching on but by all accounts they enjoyed the day. More competitive effort in the second half to hold them to 5.3 but Sorell could not find an avenue to goal often enough only posting 3 more majors.

Colts

Sorell 11.10.76 defeated Dodges Ferry 4.8.32

Sorell Colts started off the day with a solid win against Dodges Ferry.

An even first half saw Sorell lead by 10 points but a 7.5 to 2.1 second half produced a team effort that rewarded all with a 44 point win. This now puts us in reach of second spot 2 points behind NN, in the next three weeks we play Cygnet (A), Kingston (H) and Huonville away.

Reserves never really let Dodges into the game starting off each quarter well, 6.6.42 to 4.2.26 at half time set up a second half that was dominated by Sorell kicking 9.3 to 2.4 to run out convincing winners by 57 points. Luke White unstoppable in the ruck, well supported around the ground by Chappy, Perko, Ando and JD.

Goal Kickers: D. Quinn 2,  K. Flynn 2, T. Pears 2, J. Chapman 2, J. Dillon , J. Padman , T. Rusher , S. Perkins , W. Rice

Best Players: J. Ferguson, G. Williams, C. Howlett, J. Youl, M. Walsh, A. Parker

Sorell Seniors finally achieved a victory against Dodges Ferry after around an eight year drought. From the first siren Sorell displayed an intensity and commitment that had been sadly lacking in recent weeks.

An accurate opening term saw Sorell take a 6.0 to 2.1 lead.      Dodges hit back to take a 12 point advantage into the long break.

Coach Simon Harris inspired the Eagles to get that winning feeling back into them and not fall away in the second half, a situation that has occurred many times before this season and demanded a four quarter effort.

The second half saw numerous lead changes but Sorell’s 9.3 to Dodges 7.5 enabled the Eagles to hang on and win by the smallest of margins.

John Ferguson was a shining light all game right across the entire Pembroke Park, also booting 4 Majors. Well supported by Grant Williams and Cameron Howlett.

Youl and Walsh solid, Parker once again contributing with a fantastic Captains game.

The win put a smile on Harry’s face that is certainly deserved after enduring a very tough year.

The Boot is back at ‘PembrokePark’……

3 wins in the local ‘DERBY” has been achieved…..

Well done to all Players and Coaches.

Last week saw 2 wins from our 3 games. Reserves defeating East Coast and Colts got up once more over Huonville.

Sorell Colts 13.7.79 defeated Huonville 10.17.77

Due to the ECB not having a Colts side the trip was made to Huonville to once again continue the close rivalry that has developed between our two clubs.

An even first half saw each team kick one first quarter goal the 2 each in the second quarter!

Huonville took a one point lead into the main break. Wasted opportunities from the home side kicking 7.11 in the second half to Sorell’s 9.2 ended in another 2 point nail biter.

Sam Russell outstanding with 7 majors, well supported by Chapman, Johnson and Batchelor.

Sorell

Goal Kickers: S. Russell 7, D. Chapman 2, M. Johnson , D. Walker , S. Cleary

By half time the Sorell side were back on track and only trailed by 2 points.

An even second half saw Sorell hang on to win by 14 points.

Lansdell good in the forward line along with Alex Williams, both with 3 goals.

M Evans, Crossin and Rusher were the better players.

The journey was made down to the Twin Ovals at Kingston unfortunately we left with 3 losses.

Colts

Kingborough 10.12-72 d Sorell 7.7.49

Sorell kept with Kingborough (despite the sprinklers coming on) in the first quarter only to give up a 5 goal to 2 second term that had them 25 points down at the long break. An even second half saw Sorell kick 3.3 to 2.7 but the damage from the second quarter could not be repaired and Kingborough ran out winners by 23 points. Sam Russel back in form with his accurate kicking from long range posted 5 goals. Brad around the ground, Tom and Deano solid in defence all put in a good four quarter effort.

Sorell

Best Players: S. Russell, B. Hibberd, W. Grice, D. Walker, T. McKillop

Reserves

Kingborough 7.11.53 defeated Sorell 5.9.39

Sorell after an even first half seemed to have the more fancied Kingborough under control only trailing by 6 points at the long break. An even score of 5.8.38 at three quarter time set up a great last quarter only to see the home team steady in the last 10 minutes to run out winners by 14 points. A much improved all over team effort from Robbies boys that had them agonisingly close to victory. Kane Oates and Tas had their best games this year, Grego again consistent in the Ruck supported around the ground by Flynny, Perko and JD.

Sorell Football Club report from round 7.

This week we hosted the Lindisfarne Football Club in the Seniors and Reserves as well as the Cygnet Colts at PembrokePark.

Colts got us off to a great start with a resounding 110 point victory. After kicking 6 goals to 0 in the first quarter the Colts never looked back posting 5 goals in the second and third quarters to no score. Pacey outstanding with 5 Goals, Chappy 3, Squarks and Ryno 2 each. The wind certainly got up by the last quarter making play difficult. Cygnet managed to get a goal on the board and Sorell were held to 1 point. Round 8 this week against Kingborough away will be a great test for Micks boys to gauge were they are at!

Sorell Colts Defeated Cygnet 16.20.116 to 1.0.6

Goal Kickers: B. Pace 5, D. Chapman 3, M. Johnson 2, R. Scott 2, E. Nichols , W. Lyon , J. Hansen , S. Russell
Best Players: M. Johnson, B. Pace, D. Chapman, R. Scott, J. Hansen, E. Nichols

Reserves also battled the horrendous wind conditions and went down to Lindisfarne by 33 points. Sorell never recovered from a 10 minute 4 goal burst in the first quarter to give them a 24 to 0 lead at quarter time. Lindisfarne handled to wind with unbelievable accuracy to kick 9 goals straight for the game!

Results   Sorell 3.3-21 to Lindisfarne 9.0-54

Goal Kickers: M. Evans 3
Best Players: M. Evans, P. Simpson, A. Jones, B. Mayne, R. Flynn, A. Crossin.

Seniors were defeated in near Hurricane conditions that saw most of the days play on the southern wing with countless throw ins and out of bounds kicks. Can certainly understand why years ago people planted pine trees around grounds! A lot more foresight than what we have now.

Sorell were held goalless in the first half for the first time in recent memory and by all accounts the 1 goal kicked for the game was the first time this has happened since the early 1980’s. Lindisfarne again handled the conditions much better to take in a 23 point half time lead and convert in the end to a six goal win.

This week we again have some soul searching to be done before being competitive against the Kingborough side at the Twin ovals

Sorell 1.4-10 defeated by Lindisfarne 7.4-46

Goal Kicker: J. White
Best Players: T. Chynoweth, B. Walker, J. Williamson, A. Priest, A. Parker, I. Gaul

After giving Claremont a 5 goal Quarter time start the Eagles clawed their way back to be less than 4 goals down early in the last quarter. But a Claremont 7 goal, 5 points to Sorell 2 point last term saw the Mont run away with an easy 69 point win!

Shannon Griffiths great first up game for the club and Jamie Iles very good 2 weeks in a row!

Goal Kickers: J. Ferguson 5, J. White 2, D. Reimers , J. Iles , T. Banks

Sorell Colts

Defeated By Claremont 14.9.93 to 12.9.81

Sorell Club Notes  Round 5

Three Great wins for the Sorell Football Club were achieved at Pembroke Park on the weekend.

The first time for quite a while certainly creates a great vibe around the Club., Harrys, Robbie and Micks wide grins were very prominent after the Games.

The evening finished off with a well supported and run DJ Function at the Club.

Colts defeated Brighton 11.7.73 to 1.7.13

A well deserved return to form after a disappointing couple of weeks for the team. Great effort after a  week off injured Billy Pace booted 5 Majors! Matty, Sam 2 each ,Jake and Jacko 1.

Best for Sorell, Riley, Chappy, Beven, Jez, Billy and Rhyno.

Reserves had a return to the winner list as the wind started to get up defeating Brighton 5.5.35 to 3.6.24. Scoring very hard to achieve as the play could not be moved from the southern wing!

Best for the Sorell Team were John Padman, Evo, Grego, Ando Crossin, Banger and Will.

Goals Paddles 2 goals including a snap to start the game that Cyril would be proud of!

One goal each to Evo, Weeman and Kurt.

Seniors First Home win for a while defeated a determined Brighton 8.10.58 to 6.5.41.

To say the conditions were horrendous is a major understatement.  I heard a few comments from supporters that have watched games in Sorell for over 50 years and have not witnessed wind that bad! The ball frequently blew backwards and when it went out normally on the town side wing it blew onto Arthur Street!

Goal kickers, Reimo 2, Fergy 2, Mauser , Jed, Jamie Iles and Boof  1 each.

Best on Jamie Iles played his Best Game for Sorell well done. Others to do well Jed, Mauser, Willo, Woodsy, and Macca.

Remember Club clothing is available along with tea for Supporters and players on Thursday nights.

This week we we travel to take on Claremont, see you there.

Sorell Club Notes  Round 4

Unfortunately for the Sorell Football Club we endured a weekend without a win. The journey to Boyer Oval came without success.

Colts were defeated by NN in a very entertaining game by 3 points 8.6.54 to 7.9.51. Two losses in a row is unchartered waters for this team so hopefully we can get things back on track next week!

Goals, Sam Russell  4, Bevan 2. Best were Raz, Chynoweth, Chappy, Bevan, Johnstone and Tom.

Reserves were soundly beaten by a more accountable New Norfolk  18.10.118 to 7.5.47.

Best for the Sorell Team were JD, Ando, Grego, Banger, Darcy and Toddy. Goals Walshy 3, Banger 2 , Darcy and M Padman 1 each.

Seniors were defeated by NN by 129 points. A very disappointing result in the second half after trailing by only 20 points at half time. Best were Jed, Spider, Dicky, Fergy ,Belg and Radar.

Goal kickers, Fergy 4, Macca 2,Boof 2 and Mauser  1. Plenty of work to do over 4 Quarters to get back close to these sides!

We have a DJ Night this Saturday following the Brighton game, lets all get along and celebrate three wins with an enjoyable function performed by the now famous DJ Flynn!

Keep your eye on the social calendar more to come including the old players day. For more information talk to Tony Lang!
